Criteria for Life Membership
This policy sets out the minimum criteria to be eligible for nomination for an award of Life Membership of Eaton Bowling and Social Club Inc.
This award exists to recognise the valuable contribution of individuals to the current and future existence of the Club. It is therefore only to be awarded in exceptional circumstances.
It should also be recognised that Life Membership does not have to be awarded each year.
In considering the award of Life Membership an individual should have demonstrated significant, sustained and high-quality service enhancing the reputation and future of the overall Club.
The criteria to be taken into account when considering any nomination include:
1. Length of Service
- The minimum length of service to the Club should be extended service of 15 years as a member in an on field or off field and/or as a volunteer, role with such service in any such roles being taken concurrently.
2. General Considerations
- The general attitude and overall demeanor of the nominee must show a dedication to the values of the Club.
- Commitment to the principles of good sportsmanship.
- Valued leadership and good role modelling that reflects credit upon the Club.
3. Specific Criteria
- Specific achievement, both on and off the field, will be taken into consideration.
- Four areas of service in the Club may include:
- Playing. (i.e. dedicated representation of the Club and good sportsmanship.)
- Managing. (i.e. service on committees, Coordinator roles etc.)
- Administration. (i.e. fund raising, event committees or coordinator roles etc.)
- General Contribution. (i.e. volunteer service and dedicated support to Club)
- Other issues that the Committee may see as relevant.
Benefits of Life Membership
- Award of the Life Membership at Eaton Bowling Club Annual General Meeting.
- Exemption from fees associated with the Bowling Club.
- Personal invitation to any special event organised by the Club.
- Listing on the Club’s Honour Board and Photo displayed in Club.
- Status of being a member of a select group within the Club.
- Ability to include the award recognition on Curriculum Vitae.
Process for Assessing Applications for Life Membership
- Any financial member may nominate another past or present club member for consideration for Life Membership of the Club. The nomination must be in writing and must be signed by two current financial members (unrelated members) of the Club.
- The nomination should be prepared so as to set out the achievements and activities of the nominee and at a minimum must meet the criteria as set out above.
- The Life Membership nomination shall be forwarded by the nominating club member to the President of Eaton Bowling Club, no later than 8 weeks prior to the AGM in each year.
- The Life Membership Nomination must address the criteria, including:
- Attainment of minimum service requirements
- An outstanding contribution in at least one of the four areas of service with at least some contribution in two of the other three areas of contribution deemed appropriate at the discretion of the Eaton Bowling and Social Club Inc Management Committee.
- Other details of exemplary service.
- The Management Committee will assess any nominations for Life Membership based on the established criteria. The Committee will discuss and consider the nomination/s over two regular committee meetings. The Management Committee will put forward to the Executive Committee only those nominations that the Committee considers worthy of Life Membership.
- The final list of endorsed nominations for the award of Life Membership will be submitted to the Executive Committee members (being President, Vice-Presidents, Treasurer and Secretary) for agreement before the AGM. Subject to agreement by ALL Executive Committee Members, Life Membership shall be awarded at the next Annual General Meeting.
- Retraction of a Life Membership Award may occur where the recipient has conducted him/herself in a manner that reflects directly and adversely on the image or activities of this Club. This provision will only be exercised in exceptional circumstances and will require the full support of the Eaton Bowling and Social Club Inc Management Committee to be enacted.
