Welcome

2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Eaton Bowling and Social Club. Over the next few months leading up to the anniversary on the 19-21 September there will be information posted on the club’s website and Facebook page for celebratory events and snippets of past news. To help you reminisce here’s a brief introduction to the club’s history.

In 1966, 28 foundation and 11 associate members met in the kitchen of the Eaton Hall to discuss the establishment and location of a bowling club for Eaton.

Tim Kreitling was the first President and Doug Frost the first Secretary-Treasurer, who wrote the following:

“In 1966, Maeve Kreitling, Helen Cowin and Maisie Frost were members of the Bunbury Bowling Club. Maeve’s husband Tim, was also a member. I don’t know how Eldin [Cowin] fared, but many times Maisie suggested that I should join the Bunbury Club. My reply was always “why go to Bunbury? Why not a Bowling Club in Eaton?” There were many times afterwards when I might have regretted those words. One day the three ladies held an informal meeting in the Cowin’s garage and the next day Maisie asked me if I would convene a meeting to see if we could start a club in Eaton.”

Of Doug Frost, Helen Cowin wrote:

“We asked Maisie if she could persuade Doug to call the first meeting, he did, and I am sure he did not know the huge job he had let himself in for. He was the backbone of getting our club started. He was unwearied in his efforts. It was not days or weeks, but years of work. The first problem was where would we get the land to build the club?”

And so, in 1968 the site on Pratt Road was secured and club members commenced the hard work of planning, site preparation and building of the club. In 1969 the club became an incorporated body to finalise the leasing arrangement of the land on Pratt Road, and developed the club constitution which divided the club into Ordinary and Associate Members. The first associates committee meeting was held on the 6 March 1969.

From its beginnings, the Eaton Bowling and Social Club was built on fellowship through bowling and is proud to welcome all members, old and new, to develop friendship and fellowship at the club for many years to come.
